Position: Research Data Analyst, Psychiatry       

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: Per Diem, Remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

The data consultant position will involve support on various projects in the data analysis phase as part of the Behavioral Health Equity Program (PI: Abby Batchelder). Data responsibilities will include data cleaning, dataset preparation, data analyses, data visualization, and creation of a data dictionary/codebooks. The consultant will also provide support on manuscript preparation as needed. The summer consult position will involve 10-15 hrs of work per week under the direct supervision of Drs. Abigail Batchelder and Christopher Chiu.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and conduct statistical analyses; apply mathematical and statistical techniques and principles (including multivariable regression, hypothesis testing, generalized linear models, longitudinal analyses, mixed effects modeling, hierarchical variance structures, approaches to multiple comparison adjustments, etc.).

  • Gather and interpret data requirements and translate the data requirements into report queries. Write custom scripts and software programs, using statistical programming languages (e.g. SAS, R)  to aid in data analysis and management, as needed.
  • Perform complex statistical analysis of data using Stata, SAS, or clinical analysis software programs for the analysis of health-related and business data, drawing analytical conclusions.
  • Summarize data into usable formats (i.e. text, graphs, tables) for PowerPoint presentation and communicate results. Prepare written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results and conclusions.
  • Develop complex standard, ad hoc, and custom reports to satisfy business requests.  Construct analytic files from large databases.  Build reports for research staff to access as needed.
  • Conduct literature and other searches. Help to develop protocols and benchmarks for research projects. Provide analytic support and guidance for physicians and research fellows performing clinical research.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposals, gathering data to support the request (i.e, how the sample size will be calculated, randomization procedures to be used, etc). Manage projects (tracking IRB and abstract submissions, compliance with data use agreements and project timelines).
  • Assist in the drafting of manuscripts, scientific articles and publications, including writing about methodologies and statistical analysis of results; creating charts and graphs, and presenting supporting data.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:  

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in economics, a health-related field or statistics, although outstanding applicants from other fields may be considered. Some demonstrated interest in healthcare or public health background should be apparent from educational record.
  • Master’s degree and/or specific training and experience with cost-effectiveness research preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in statistical programming, (preferably with STATA; SAS and/or R) is required.
  • Experience analyzing health-related data, such as from medical records, surveys, or health care data is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with MS Suite (Excel /Minitab /Visio /Access/Word /Outlook/PowerPoint) also required.
  • Must have experience in statistical analysis and interpreting data from analytic studies. Experience interacting with database environments (e.g. SQL, MS Access, Oracle) is a plus.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills; able to interpret and apply statistical techniques, and effective communication skills to explain methods and findings to non-statistician team members and audiences.
