Job Description

PRIMARY DETAIL

Exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst to join a team driven by meaningful work, providing insights to enable data-informed decisions across the project streams.

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: From $108,391 - $117,519 (HEW 7) plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term up to May 2025 (with possibility to extend)

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Role

The Data Analyst will set up processes and workflows for data related to the Voluntary Mental Health Check Tool (VMHCT) project. The role will analyse and present relevant data in the form of reports and dashboards to drive insights and inform strategic, operational, product, marketing and reporting decisions.

The Voluntary Mental Health Check Tool (VMHCT) Project is dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of school students through a digital assessment tool. The project collaborates with experts, educational departments, and various stakeholders to ensure the tool meets the needs of Australian schools. The "My Mind Check" tool helps schools identify students at risk and provides recommendations for care.

About You

You will have relevant qualifications (such as a diploma or Bachelors degree in data science, statistics or a related field) and/ or equivalent experience in data analytics, preferably in education, health or mental health sectors, with strong problem solving skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Your demonstrated ability to bring together disparate data sources and leverage visualisation tools to create engaging reports will be critical to effectively presenting the project team with clear and accurate insights in a timely manner as required by the different streams of work. You will also be adept at identifying opportunities for automation and enhancement in data analysis and reporting and apply your technical expertise to implement.

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience across data projects including performing data exploration, ETL, data modelling and data visualisation, with an advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, macros, and Power Query.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage data visualisation tools such as Power BI to write engaging and accurate reports.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and an understanding of the management of sensitive data, while working to tight deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships, work collaboratively and use data to tell a story.

  • A readiness to actively engage in a dynamic team, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to hands-on problem-solving.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in Google analytics and Salesforce.

  • Previous experience in education or mental health is highly desirable.

Specific role requirements

  • This position requires a criminal record check and a Working with Children Check. Working hours may also vary from time to time to accommodate business needs.
