The Cybersecurity Center at MSU Denver is seeking an Associate Director of Training and Operations. A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate real-world cybersecurity experience in software engineering specific to Security Operations Centers (SOC), the management of those day-to-day activities including monitoring, analysis, investigation, escalation, and Incident Response (IR).
Reporting to the Director of The Cybersecurity Center, candidates should be able to work with external customers, both private and public sector as well as vendors, in line with the Director's intent. The role will require flexibility and on occasions, the need to work outside of core working hours being defined as Monday to Friday from 8am – 5pm. Candidates will also be required to form part of an innovation team charged with the development of innovative software approaches specific to cybersecurity and will therefore need to be able to demonstrate some experience in this field for development and project management. Candidates should be experienced in the management of and operations of enterprise grade cyber ranges, with the intent to train students, industry professionals, and underserved communities.
Job Duties:
The Cyber Range (20%)
- Directly responsible for operations, training, and program management of the cyber range.
Project CENTURION (50%)
- Directly responsible for the development, growth and maintenance of the CENTURION platform.
MSU Denver Security Operations Center (15%)
- Conduct Tier 3 Analysis in support of Project CENTURION.
NSA CAE and ABET (10%)
- Provide assistance to the Systems and Operations Manager for administration and redesignation of the MSU Denver NSA CAE-CD designation.
Diversity Cybersecurity Training (5%)
- Responsible for providing training that supports hands on skills for populations with traditionally low representation in Cybersecurity. Including but not limited to students from neurodiverse communities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in software engineering and/or cybersecurity.
- Proven leadership experience in managing teams and operations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, practices, and emerging threats.
- Ability to design and implement effective software solutions and training programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a cybersecurity training or educational environment.
- Familiarity with advanced software engineering methodologies and tools.
- Experience with budget management and strategic planning.
- Established network within the cybersecurity and software engineering communities.
Salary for Announcement
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $64,500 - $86,000. The full salary range is $64,500 - $107,600.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Work Hours
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, on campus presence is preferred but hybrid options may be possible with supervisor approval.
