Job Description:

The Corporate IT team is looking for a Lead Software Engineer with at least 8 years of application support, analysis, and development experience.

What will you do?

  • Provide ongoing support to the operations team, on-call, problem analysis, resolution and escalation;
  • Lead work on regular maintenance activities required to keep the applications working at expected levels;
  • Work with external software vendors during vendor implementations and issue resolution Configure and install software products, patches, vendor releases in multiple environments
  • Apply analysis skills to understand and assess the impact of infrastructure and technical changes within the environment
  • Provide recommendations and alternatives for system enhancements
  • Establish and maintain constructive relationships with other IT team members and external vendors.
  • Maintain effective communication with management, team members and the business
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Provide coaching to other team members on tools, techniques and processes
  • Provide estimates and contribute to defining timelines and project plans
  • Ensure Sun Life Information Security Policies are complied to in any solution
  • Work with Business Systems Analysts to ensure design solutions meet requirement needs
  • Participate in both design reviews and code reviews
  • Provide technical leadership within projects ensuring the appropriate technical solution is being delivered, appropriate governance is applied, risks are mitigated, issues are resolved and projects are successfully implemented.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive information technology experience with full application development life cycle and systems integration experience
  • Strong leadership skills, able to lead independently with a bias toward action and results
  • Knowledge of ITIL standards and best practices

  • Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with creating design documentation and diagrams
  • Relational database experience (SQL Server)
  • Windows server knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of ETL and experience with ETL tools (Informatica or SSIS or AWS Glue)
  • Experience with scheduling tools (Autosys)
  • Experience with PowerShell and/or other scripting tools and techniques
  • Understanding file transfer process and options (FTP/SFTP)

What will be nice to have?

  • Experience In Finance or Banking systems
  • Previous experience with Reconciliation software, specifically, Frontier
  • Understanding of Agile Methodologies
  • Knowledge of cloud-based platforms (AWS Amazon Web Services)
  • Knowledge of API Services
  • Experience with the DevOps tools (Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, CDD, Ansible)
  • Experience with Informatica PowerCenter or IICS
  • Technical experience in Unix (AIX and/or Linux)

Unique Requirements

  • Occasional weekend and after-hours work
  • On-call support as part of rotation
  • Must be able to obtain Reliability Status through the Government of Canada before a start date can be confirmed (includes a background check with fingerprinting by the RCMP)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
