Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists with the following: Cell culture, processing animal tissues/samples for staining, animal husbandry (colony maintenance/genotyping), molecular biology (PCR/qPCR), and Biochemistry (Western blot/immunostaining).
- Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
- Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 2 years of experience in a research lab setting.
- Experience with cell culture, animal husbandry, molecular biology and immunostaining.
- Experience with isolation and culture of human and/or mouse primary cells.
- Experience using basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, CO2 incubators, spectrophotometer, PCR machines, pH meter, balances, plate reader, light and fluorescence microscopes, DNA gel apparatus, Western blot apparatus, etc.).
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Rigorous adherence to ethical protocol and procedure.
- Familiarity working with both Windows and Mac computers and typical productivity software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with relevant codes of conduct in animal care, research and well-being.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 4 years.
