About This Opportunity 

This position will be based at the Biotech Nexus Lab in the Centre for Animal Science at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food innovation (CAS-QAAFI). For this research, you will utilize Omics tools and a One-Health approach to study, monitor, prevent and control zoonotic diseases whilst understanding the host-pathogen disease dynamics. Computational Abiology skills and the use of High-performance computing, experience in fieldwork and surveillance and fieldwork co-ordination are essential skills. The research group is especially interested in harnessing and developing emerging livestock species towards food safety and security and your research experience in such species will be invaluable. This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level it is expected that you will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You 

  • Successful Completion of a PhD in Animal Biotechnology
  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area as evidenced with publications
  • Evidence of fieldwork and surveillance skills in remote regions
  • Competence in Computational Biology and high-performance Computing
  • Evidence of emerging livestock species research
  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Experience in BSc and MSc student supervision and institutional roles
