About the role: 

Reporting into the Manager of Software Engineering, as a Software Engineering Lead with Reaxys, you will be building and leading our Bengaluru based self-organising team of Java developers that will work with our other teams to build and maintain our highly performant, highly available backend systems.  

You will work closely with the product management, software engineering, architecture, data science, platform, cheminformatics and L1/L2 support teams based in Germany, London, Amsterdam, Shanghai and Manila joining a fast-paced agile development environment driving our global success. 

Your responsibilities: 

• Work in a diverse agile environment fostering a culture based on innovation and taking initiative driven by the desire to achieve excellence while delivering on product development roadmaps, managing the scope of releases, sprints and our DevOps strategies. 

• Utilise the full potential of the team to lean on the strengths and mitigate against the weaknesses ensuring that the team functions as a unit. 

• Utilise and lead the team in utilising the training tools, like Udemy, that are available to stay abreast of the latest trends in the chosen field of expertise, bringing this back to the team and Reaxys. 

• Conduct performance reviews, coach and effectively manage team members to ensure that their career growth aspirations are both achievable and achieved. 

• Develop relationships with the tech communities in Bengaluru and Elsevier and make effective use of these to support the development of the team and Reaxys. 

What you will bring 

• Demonstrate extensive experience leading a team working with highly available cloud-based enterprise web applications. 

• Extensive experience in software engineering covering: Java, Restful APIs, Content Delivery Networks, Infrastructure as a Service, Software as a Service, Document Databases, Relational Databases and any of the major cloud service providers. 

• Advanced understanding of Kubernetes based container hosting in cloud environments 

• Demonstrable knowledge of SOLID, OO concepts and the MVC and MVVM models. 

• Quality first development experience with unit testing and linting utilizing JUnit, Gherkin / Cucumber, a mocking framework like Mockito and SonarQube. 

• Have a passion for leading teams that produce clean, maintainable and extensible code. 

• Fluent English written and spoken communication skills.
