About the Role

Responsibilities

  • Manage infrastructure resources (currently in AWS, with potential expansion to other platforms) and oversee system configuration.

  • Manage production and development environments.

  • Develop expertise in the team’s system architecture and guide the engineering team to evolve our architecture to meet future product, scale, and resiliency requirements.

  • Implement production system changes to meet company requirements, such as High Availability and Disaster Recovery compliance.

  • Code, deploy, and maintain large-scale, fault-tolerant systems using technologies like AWS Cloud Development Kit, Terraform, etc.

  • Build self-service tooling that empowers application developers to interact with production environments.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to production incidents: triage, fix, and resolution. Conduct retrospectives and act on incidents to continually improve our systems and processes.

  • Improve operational efficiency to help scale the team by automating where possible.

  • Collaborate closely with distributed engineering teams within Workday Everywhere, and interact with other Workday teams that provide tooling for our system.

  • Handle manual production environment changes (e.g., in AWS) that can’t be automated due to compliance reasons.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years overall software engineering experience

  • 2+ years of DevOps or SRE experience

  • 2+ years infrastructure and automation experience, with technologies like AWS Cloud Development Kit and Terraform

  • 2+ years hands on experience using AWS technologies

  • Experience in development and deployment in a multi-region cloud environment, especially AWS, GCP etc.

  • Experience with security, performance, high availability and disaster recovery methodologies

  • Experience in identifying performance bottlenecks, identifying anomalous system behavior, and resolving root cause of service issues

  • Experience working with container deployment and orchestration technologies with knowledge of fundamentals including service discovery, deployments, monitoring, scheduling, load balancing

  • Experience with distributed cloud service development, infrastructure, traffic management and architecture

  • Experience with networking concepts like VPC, DNS, ALB/NLB, Subnets, etc.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience working within a highly collaborative team environment with the occasional pairing

  • Passion to automate common tasks and processes

  • Self-starter who is passionate about system improvements and improving developer experience while balancing them with team commitments

  • Passion for writing quality and well-tested code

  • Experience with writing production-quality code in TypeScript

  • Proven track record of delivering and maintaining several production-quality applications

  • Experience in maintaining and monitoring production systems at scale


Workday Pay Transparency Statement 

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.
