This position is looking for a summer intern who has strong technical background in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods, ideally related to wind energy or structural design applications. The intern will work on developing generalizable machine learning capabilities to model viscous loading on different floating platforms under different wind-wave conditions. Additionally, the work will include investigations of how such a model can be used to design new floating platform designs that are resilient to extreme event scenarios. The ideal candidate should be able to conduct research work independently and also collaborate with other researchers with diverse technical backgrounds. Further, the candidate should have a strong programming background and experience implementing ML/AI methods to solve complex problems.
Basic QualificationsMinimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Additional Required Qualifications
- Strong fundamental knowledge in the design, training, and validation of neural networks as well as their deployment to solve complex problems
- Proficiency using Python and associated ML/AI packages, including PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Basic knowledge in wind energy science, fluid dynamics, and/or oceanography
- Familiarity with graph neural network architectures and/or operator learning
- Experience in using high performance computers, Linux systems
