As a Senior Software engineer, you will be part of a squad within the Customer Data Management crew. You will be working with engineers on uplifting business capabilities and modernise our tech stack. We offer regular opportunities to work on some of the finest IT systems in Australia, as well as opportunity to develop careers across different functions and teams within the wider Bank.


You'll be hands-on coding and be responsible for shaping the evolution of this system by designing and developing micro services, data access layers, REST API(s), and writing integration services for third-party API consumption, manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing, as well as learning more about back-end engineering. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds and provide technical guidance to the junior members of the team.

We’re interested in hearing from people who

  • Are passionate about building developing and deploying high quality software solutions.

  • Have Experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure cloud pipelines, logging, and monitoring.

  • Have the ability to collaborate, present ideas, perform reviews and mentor other junior engineers.

  • Can analyse business objectives and translate requirements to technical implementation components.

  • Are actively involved in continuous learning, experimentation and innovation, ready to apply and promote industry best patterns and practices, driving high quality outcomes to solve core business objectives.

  • Possesses automation and DRY mindset

Tech Skills

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:

  • Hands-on experience in developing backend applications using C# .NET Core, Java, GraphQL

  • Demonstrated knowledge of micro services and REST API Integration

  • Ability to create database designs and database programming for both relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. MSSQL, Oracle, Aurora)

  • Source code control, build and deployment tools (CI/CD) – GitHub, TeamCity, Octopus deploy, GitHub Actions

  • Cloud Experience on AWS (CloudFormation, CodeBuild etc.) – Desirable.

  • Experience with event driven architecture and Kafka.

  • Understanding of monitoring and observability tools like splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, OpenTelemetry

  • Build and hosting technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, ECS/Fargate) – Desirable

  • Be able to support and resolve issues in tech stacks.

  • Knowledge of security best practices and principles.
